There is just something about the first candy corn of the season! For some reason, it doesn't taste the same if you buy it off season (fresh Brachs only!) We were at the store and I just couldn't resist picking up that new bag off the fully loaded display at the front of the store. I remember as a child riding the bus to school; the end of the year was always signaled by the smell of lilacs in a yard that we passed just before we arrived. Such a happy smell and time! Fall on the other hand is signaled by fewer hours of sunshine during the day and cooler temperatures which make me somewhat blue to feel like the summer fun is nearly over. Candy corn has the sweet power to dispel that feeling by brightening up my senses to the excitement that is FALL! I truly enjoy the sound of leaves as they rustle and fall, and as they crunch under my feet. We are still many weeks away from that, but candy corn signals a change to a different focus. Somehow fall draws us closer, holding hands while walking in summer's heat is oppressive, drop the temperature and humidity and it's a delight! My wish is that we could all be closer, even if the miles keep us apart. May Fall bring that hope to reality to all of us!
