While they were running.......mom found a baby bird!







Little "Tuffy" very sweet and noisy!




A baby bird was found on the river bank at our homeschool track practice last Thursday. We voluntered to bring it home to try to save it (since we have no cats!) The boys immediately upon arriving home, dug up some worms for him. He munched them hungrily and we then got some water into his beak. I did some research on the internet to see what the best course of action was and learned that it is illegal to keep a baby bird (even if you are trying to save it's life!) So we wound up taking the little tufted titmouse to the Alabama Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at Oak Mountain State Park. They have the proper licensure and experience to address the specific needs of wild animals.

I had never been to the center and was very impressed! (Even though Bart lived there for nearly 5 months! we had taken hikes and the outdoor raptor walk before, -as well as other park activities- but somehow missed this.) They have many wild animals (mostly birds,) that are undergoing treatment there and in fact they serve several thousand animals each year. Spring is their busy season, as babies are the most vulnerable. They have a quiet hallway where you can watch the "doctors" work on their animal "patients," it is a great little half-hour +- tour and worth the cost of admission into the park.

I will be sending them my card for them to mail back to me with "Tuffy's" response to treatment and will post it on a future entry.
