Several area homschoolers, most of whom are not in our cover group and were new to us, attended a tour of the FBI building in Birmingham last week. It was a chilly day but the sun and beautiful building were inspiring. We were fascinated with the design of the building, how it is raised on several terraces to protect it from possible attack. The extreme security getting in and yet the friendliness of the staff. We toured the forensics lab, saw the gun room, looked at some cases filled with assorted photos and materials from crimes and criminals. We heard several amusing story of criminals who were not very adept, and also got to see the room where the images from the surveillance cameras around the building were arrayed.

Though both Anthony and Luke enjoyed the tour, I don't think either was inspired to be a Federal Agent! It was good to see how they are working hard to keep our country safe and have learned from their mistakes in the past to work together with other federal and local law enforcement to solve and prevent crimes.
